PRESENTATION

In-Voc: Restoring hope & purpose through vocational rehabilitation following a spinal cord injury

What is In-Voc? An early intervention vocational rehabilitation service for people with spinal cord injury. In-Voc uses a nine stage model of Readiness to Work/Study/Volunteer developed to represent the population we are working with. This model arose after review of the Transtheoretical model of Stages of Change (Prochaska et al 1992). In-Voc would like to share the journey of a past client who showcases the important work of Rehabilitation Counsellors using this framework/model to deliver person-centred rehabilitation counselling interventions.

About the Presenter

Jane Bates is a Rehabilitation Counsellor who works as a vocational consultant in the In-Voc team at Royal Rehab in NSW. Jane works with clients who have had a spinal cord injury in both the inpatient and community setting; assisting them to achieve their vocational goals (work, study or volunteering). Her focus is on meeting people 'where they are at' in terms of their readiness and letting that guide compassionate counselling/vocational rehabilitation interventions.
