PRESENTATION

The Progressive Goal Attainment Program and Vocational Rehabilitation treatment package for improving vocational participation following Acquired Brain Injury: an observational study to assess feasibility, acceptability and effectiveness

Rehabilitation Counsellors have an important role in assisting the rehabilitation of individuals with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), for whom a combination of physical, cognitive and emotional factors can negatively impact employment and participation in daily life. This study aimed to assess the feasibility, acceptability and effectiveness of a treatment package delivered by rehabilitation counsellors. The treatment package combined the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP) with vocational rehabilitation to assist individuals with ABI who are seeking to return to work or participate in community-based activities. The treatment package was generally rated as acceptable and improvements in work readiness such as improved daily structure were noted. Participants who did not continue to the treatment package suggested they were motivated to participate in the interview by their lived experience that brain injury may present a difficult set of presenting problems; assistance and accommodations to return to work or community-based activities were identified.
