What every Rehabilitation Counsellor should know about Occupational Identity.

When we conduct vocational counselling, we almost never consider the extent of our interviewee's identification with their former occupation. Are we helping them find a new occupation, or asking them to change who they are? Dr Girdler presents the findings of his research into occupational identity, how it acts as a barrier to occupational change, and how Rehabilitation Counsellors can use this knowledge to facilitate change more effectively.

About the Presenter

Ross has been a Rehabilitation Counsellor for over 25 years having worked in the NSW WorkCover, Comcare, DVA and ADF systems, and as an Injury Management Advisor for the NSW Police Service amongst others. He now works exclusively to conduct vocational assessments for medico-legal purposes including work injury, motor vehicle accidents, public liability and medical negligence.
